Mixed Flow Fan

Mixed Flow Fan

Mixed-Flow Fans

Mixed-flow fans sit between axial and centrifugal: more pressure than a plain axial fan at a smaller size than a centrifugal, which suits medium flow with relatively high pressure, such as duct boosting, AHU internal fans and jet induction.

SINDFAN supplies mixed-flow fans as complete units and mixed-flow impellers with guide vanes as separate components.

Key specifications

Impeller diameterØ250 - Ø1600mm
Blade formBackward-curved twisted blades (mixed-flow)
Pressuremedium to high, suited to in-line duct boosting
DriveDirect or belt drive
MaterialFabricated steel, cast aluminium, or GRP for corrosive duty
BalancingISO 1940-1 G6.3

Figures above are our standard ranges; the actual supply is per the agreed technical specification. Impeller performance curves describe the bare impeller under standard inlet conditions. Once installed, performance is affected by casing clearance, tip clearance, inlet straightening and guide vanes; tested as a complete fan to GB/T 1236 / AMCA 210 the result typically differs by 2-5%. Site measurement governs and no complete-fan performance warranty is implied.

Typical applications

  • AHU and fresh air handling units
  • Duct boosting and in-line supply
  • Basement and car park ventilation
  • Tunnel jet induction
  • Dust collection and process ducting
  • Industrial furnace combustion and exhaust

Selection notes

  • Convert total system resistance to total pressure before comparing with the curve - do not read the maximum pressure point off the catalogue.
  • When boosting in series, match the flow of the two fans so the downstream unit is not starved.
  • Mixed-flow fans are sensitive to inlet conditions; a short inlet straight length noticeably reduces efficiency.

FAQ

Mixed-flow or centrifugal?

For the same flow a mixed-flow fan is smaller and easier to route; choose centrifugal when pressure is high (above about 2500 Pa) or fine control is needed.

Can it be inverter driven?

Yes. When using a VFD, check motor cooling at the lowest frequency - a shaft-mounted fan may not be sufficient for prolonged low-speed running.

Is it noisy?

At high speed mixed-flow fans are noisier; choose a larger diameter at lower speed, or add silencers and treat the inlet and outlet.
